Modern couplings for mega yachts need to fulfill various tasks.

Challenging torsional vibration situations and high acoustic requirements plus the complexity of various operating modes require tailored and sophisticated coupling solutions. They need to be lightweight and in the case of electric motor drives they often need electric insulation properties as well. In addition, they have to offer a high misalignment capability to meet all present movements due to the extremely soft engine and gearbox arrangement. The solution for mega yacht applications is our Geislinger SILENCO® acoustic coupling, as it minimizes the transfer of the structure-borne noise significantly while transmitting even high-power levels. Due to our holistic system approach, Geislinger is able to provide innovative Powertrain Solutions for mega yachts.

Research vessels
Research vessels
Listening to the soft sound of ocean life requires being silent yourself. But how can you get rid of the underwater noise radiation of your own boat?

Underwater noise radiation by fisheries research vessels must be lower than most other vessel types. These strict requirements are laid upon researchers by marine life itself. If there is too much noise, the object of observation is gone. Our Geislinger SILENCO® is the optimum solution for attenuating noise and torsional vibrations transmitted via the drive shaft to the propeller. The special design is a result of both extensive research as well as experience, making it a high-performance lightweight component. Aside from its torsional properties, it is also capable of compensating axial, radial and angular misalignment.

High-speed ferries
High-speed ferries
Innovative engineering solutions are advancing vessel designs. For state-of-the-art high-speed vessels, weight, reliability, and serviceability are the most important considerations.

Our maintenance-free GESILCO® carbon fiber shafting and misalignment coupling solutions offer operators the system with low weight and along with that unique weight saving also the bearing loads in adjacent propulsion components, such as gears or bearings are reduced significantly. Soft mounted equipment shows high dynamic misalignments and Geislinger provides composite shafting and coupling systems to allow for axial, radial, and angular movement during operation. Outstanding shock capabilities and excellent acoustic attenuation underline the use of Geislinger products for vessels running at high speeds.

Offshore support vessels
Offshore support vessels
With an operational profile consisting of various propulsion modes, offshore support vessels (OSV) were amongst the first to be fitted with a hybrid propulsion system.

Dynamic positioning operations require certain engine power reserves that must be available promptly. By providing power from batteries, the need for operating engines in low-load areas is decreased – and so is fuel consumption. A good hybrid system integration, however, requires more than just batteries. The Geislinger coupling provides the torsional flexibility needed in hybrid powertrains. Thus, it protects the electric machinery from torque shocks prolonging its lifetime. Our long-lasting products offer low total cost of ownership. For keeping stress on shafting as low as possible, torsional vibration calculations determine critical locations.

Tugboats
Tugboats
Roughly three quarters of the time, tugboats operate on 50 % of their rated power or less. A hybrid powertrain can turn reduced periods of engine part-load into fuel savings.

In comparison to their size, tugboats are equipped with powerful engines. This power is needed for maneuvering heavy loads in harbors. However, as those operations occur only for short periods of time, the engine runs in part-load for long periods, thus, decreasing overall efficiency. Hybrid propulsion systems can help increase the efficiency and lower fuel consumption. For hybrid tugboat propulsion, the Geislinger GESILCO® misalignment couplings offer an incredible opportunity. Not only do they compensate radial, axial, and angular misalignment, but they are also most compact and maintenance free couplings. Their lightweight structure and electrically insulating properties really make them champions in their field. This is why the producers of azimuth thrusters put their trust in our products.

Future fuels
Future fuels
The future of shipping is green and clean energy will reduce CO2 emissions drastically. Is your vessel future proof?

Increasingly strict regulations in the shipping industry aim to cut down on the carbon intensity of vessels. Complying with the necessary criteria can therefore reduce costs. Running engines on future fuels is one way on the road to success. Make sure that your drivetrain can cope with the new requirements! Geislinger is an expert in the field of torsional vibrations. For over 60 years, our customers have relied on the results of our calculations. Even if future fuels may impose new challenges, we are ready to take them on and also provide you with suitable solutions if the calculation proves to be challenging.

Power generation
Power generation
Electric drive systems benefit from low, almost linear restoring forces as well as from the highest torque transmission with the best dynamic behavior.

Reliability is one of the most important features for the decentralized power supply for millions of people all around the world. At Geislinger we are aware of our responsibility and therefore develop powertrain solutions, which fulfill the highest demands for these applications. Geislinger products ensure the energy supply even in remote areas and under rough conditions and provide customized and reliable product solutions for different kinds of power generation. Minimal cost of ownership, outstanding service life, a very high level of reliability and constant performance are some of the most important features of our products.
