COMPOWIND® is the ideal solution for next-generation, highly integrated medium-speed wind turbines.

Low reaction forces of the composite coupling virtually eliminate non-torque loads and lead to a significant improvement in dynamic system behavior. The successful and proven application of a COMPOWIND® LSS Coupling in geared wind turbines can also be transferred to direct-drive wind turbines. In combination with a separated generator bearing, virtually all rotor shaft deflections causing bending moments are absorbed by the LSS coupling. That allows the air gap to be narrowed down between rotor and stator for increased electrical efficiency and energy production, by simultaneously avoiding hard body contacts even under severe operating conditions and/or control errors. Less structural loads allow the drivetrain structure to be optimized, resulting in reduced weight and reduced cost of the drivetrain. The GESILCO® Disc couples the generator to the gearbox. Thanks to its electric isolation properties, it safeguards the gearbox bearings from tracking currents, which are normally transmitted from the generator through a steel coupling. The coupling allows for misalignments in axial and angular directions and relieves the bearings from constraint forces.

With vast improvements in the aeroacoustics blade design over the past years, the mechanical noise of the wind turbine is becoming more and more audible.

Together with the growing sizes of onshore turbines, more stringent regulations, and low wind speed operations, drivetrain noise and tonality are becoming more challenging. Geislinger Powertrain Solutions, torsional elastic couplings, and torsional dampers, when gear-integrated or attached to the rotor of a direct-drive turbine, dampen torsional excitations caused by gear teeth mesh, respectively pole transition. These torsional vibrations causing the structure-borne noise, which is transferred to the entire wind turbine structure, are dampened effectively at their origin.
