The compact and lightweight Gesilco® design paves the way for great opportunities

Geislinger’s participation at SMM 2018, the world’s leading trade fair for the maritime industry with over 2,200 exhibitors and about 50,000 visitors from all over the world, was again a great success.

Celebrating Geislinger’s 60th anniversary this year which coincides with 25 years of experience in manufacturing products made from fibre composites, the Geislinger booth at SMM 2018 was very well attended. It is particularly interesting that Geislinger was the first company to implement shaft-coupling-combinations made from fibre composites for marine applications. The Austrian-based company distinguishes itself by having misalignment couplings with complex design and shafts with integrated flanges. Besides standard solutions, Gesilco® products are customized for specific applications. Gesilco® products are characterized by their lightweight design by which a weight reduction of up to 90% in comparison to standard solutions can be achieved.

Due to its high manufacturing depth – from development, design, mould design, and construction, everything is handled in-house and fast lead times are ensured. The experienced and highly-qualified Gesilco®-team masters all common manufacturing processes, furthermore ultra-modern test benches are available for all Gesilco® product groups. Besides classical Gesilco®-products like for instance the Gesilco® Butterfly Coupling or the Gesilco® Shaftline, products like the Silenco® Acoustic Coupling, launched in 2016, supplement the product range.

The Silenco® Coupling was presented for the very first time at SMM 2016. During this year’s SMM, Geislinger was focusing on the Gesilco® product range. Therefore, one of the key exhibits was the latest version of the Geislinger Silenco®-Coupling with an extended modular system. At the bottom of the active demonstrator, gearbox noise was generated. The visitors could feel the vibrations and experience in real time how well the vibrations are reduced from one side of the coupling to the other. It is the new variation of the modular Silenco®-system with the optional asymmetric design of the membranes. This allows getting even smoother values for the transmission loss function over a broadband frequency range. Engine noise as well as gearbox noise is well taken care of. In the meantime, the high reduction of structure borne noise has been approved on board mega yacht applications.

Geislinger has again proved that individual as well as specialist applications, inspired by shipyards or research companies, enjoy the highest priority at Geislinger and are attended to with full commitment.
